Not Lamers who have been around have seen the name Ben`s Diapers over the years but they have not seen anything new from the band in well over 3 years. The Finnish band return with "Up In The Mountains, Deep In The Sea" sounding refreshed and vibrantly ready to re-engage in making their special brand of music . Ben`s Diapers are a rootsy, earthy rock `n pop jangling band with a penthcant for ringing guitars, lots and lots of Byrds-ian inspired harmonies, rich, jangle textures and Byrds-inspired harmonies, classic pop guitars and soaring 3-part harmonies and sunshiny disposition free of cliche. Long sentence, eh? Dynamic, sharp, crystal clear pop melodies cut deep inside the powerful rhythm section`s chops as they rattle the cage of safely defined pop. Slipping in past passions of 80s/90s indie alt-Americana, they are a band as comfortable with The Byrds, Teenage Fanclub as they are Green On Red, The Jayhawks and Chuck Prophet. It`s a rootsy grounding that has served the band well but what ups their game is the time away from the music business game to life life and bring a richer tapestry of life experiences inside their songcraft. Reflecting the wise, confident state the band launches this new project, the band provide a little insight on this project: ""Up in the mountains. Deep in the sea. High and low, big time. This album is about that: mood swings and emotional extremes. Call it manic depressive, call it bi-polar disorder. It has its musical, lyrical, and emotional peaks and valleys. Even the long, winding road of recording had its ups and downs. At times it looked as though the tracks would never get finished. Then it felt good again, like we were on to something." Here are those fruits and inviting, satisfying and life enriching they are. A consistently special band over the past 10 years ups their game to my great delight.
