Admiral Twin - Center Of The Universe

OUT OF PRINT!! ONLY ONE COPY and this is gone.

2007 release from a long, long time fave band here at Not Lame! They are band who truly make up their own rules inside what constitutes `pop formulaÂ`. Admiral Twin has an amazing knack for consistently catchy, intelligent songwriting, as well as rock solid musicianship, stellar harmonies, and the wildly inappropriate use of small farm animals for interesting `sound textures.Â` ItÂ`s something you canÂ`t find out there too often on the music landscape. It may not work for everyone, as a result, but fans of their recent work and anyone unfamiliar with AT, take some time to listen below and youÂ`ll get a gauge of how they work their magic. Now, bless the boys, the had the following sentence in their biography on their MySpace and I canÂ`t resist putting it here - indulge me: They wrote: `Their 12-track release is "a spirited blast of freshly honed pop that is witty and multi-faceted," says Bruce Brodeen of Not Lame Records...who was not paid off in any way whatsoever--with drugs, illicit women, or a life-size Robin Gibb cutout cardboard display--to say nice things about the band. Seriously.Â` And, I can attest, that is true - but if they had offered the Gibb poster, hmmmm. NOT.

HereÂ`s a bit of press that is quite revealing from their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I love music of all sorts: blues, rock, jazz, even a little country. Nothing gets me quite excited, however, as a good pop song. Guilty pleasure or not, a good three and a half minutes of pure, candy-coated audio bliss with a hook that sticks in your head like honey gives me a musical sugar buzz that can last all day. Now, I`m not talking about robotic dance singles or prefabricated, American Idol pop songs. I`m referring to the kind of pure pop songs that stick in your head for days. You know what I`m talking about because whether you want to admit it or not, you`ve experienced it, too. Fortunately, the great pop song isn`t completely lost, even if it isn`t exactly flourishing. Occasionally I`ll hear a tune that is dead on: a cut off of Malan D`s last disc or a song by GHOSTS, but more often than not it`s an aberration instead of the standard. There is one band in town, however, still on that quest for the perfect pop song. As far as I`m concerned, Admiral Twin is an overlooked and underappreciated treasure on the local music scene. Perhaps it`s because the band has outlasted so many other acts or maybe it`s because it`s just not cool to like pop songs any more. Nevertheless, the band keeps playing, mastering its craft and searching for the perfect pop song. If The Center of the Universe is leaps and bounds from Creatures of Bread and Wine and a world away from Mock Heroic or the band`s first release, Unlucky, that`s to be expected. With more than three years passed since the release of Creatures in 2003, the band has continued to grow and add more depth and nuance to its songs. " - UrbanTulsa.

Seriously, once again, Admiral Twin throw that cookie cutter out the door and work their gifted alchemy with finding new ways to say and cover old subject matter. DonÂ`t try this at home, just listen to it there! Brimming with rivers of gently floating hooks, Admiral Twin are back with a vengence. Extremely Highly Recommended!

This is the latest offering from my favorite band, and it carries on their strong tradition of excellence. Never easily described due to their penchant for diversity, they are nevertheless always coming up with new ways to serve up the hooks, harmonies, melodies, and literate lyrics we love. From the rock solid "In My Veins" to the sweeeet sounds of "Good As Gold" to the upbeat ballad love song of "I Confess" (take note guys, use these lyrics on your lady and she'll melt) they do it all. They also have a knack for adding just the right touch of bells and whistles to set off the arrangements. My #1 Best of 2007.
