THE CAMPBELL STOKES - Sunshine Recorder

Solo album from Bronco Bullfrog leader, Andy Morten!! Ringing w/positive vibrations that cover a wide area of melancholic McCartney-isms and a bit of stomping Material Issue and Who `Sings My Generation` spirit...melodies from the 60`s w/the styling of 70`s power pop w/a nice mixture of acoustic and electric guitars. Makes Your Ears Smile is the product of many months of stolen recording sessions at home, struggling with new technology and wedging himself at strange angles out on the landing when the guitars don`t fit in the box room. It features ten songs which, as you might hope given his credentials, run the gamut of backwards-looking, forwards-thinking pop - more of the psychedelic sunshine and melancholic head-scratching that propelled so many of those aural delicacies from The Nerve and Bronco Bullfrog into people`s hearts, minds and garden sheds.

The first track is called simply "Track One" and manages to cram a whole album`s worth of ideas into a two and a half minute rush of pure powerpop adrenaline; "Everybody Loves The Good Times" also plumps for the `album-in-one-song` approach, this time stopping to draw breath occasionally before throwing in another twisty turny bit to keep you on your toes; "She Looks Good In The Sun"flits between the melodic nous of Ben Folds and the crash-bang-wallop of prime late ala 60s Britpop heroes like The Move and Small Faces;"You Can Make Me Smile" taps unashamedly into the vast pool of pathos and sadness that underpinned so many of Bronco Bullfrog`s greatest moments yet still manages to be bright and uplifting; "Feel The Sunshine" should put a mile-wide grin on the sourest of faces and, if I may be so bold, would have had some Tin Pan Alley shark screaming - that`s the single! if it were 1967. And, in some ways, there is a corner of Andy`s music that will always remain 1967: optimistic, colourful, often ramshackle and always tuneful. EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
