BLEU - A Watched Pot (w/ bonus)

"Redhead", his last album, was released in 2003 so it has been a long time since Bleu has released an album connected to his name. He, though, released many projects under different names and collaborated on many others so music from Bleu has been out there and available. "Watched Pot", though, is his. Produced by John Fields and featuring the help of Andy Sturmer(Jellyfishb, but of course!) on vocals additions and embellishments, the songs on this new record find Bleu approaching love and loss with his signature humor, heart and melodic deftness. With an album full of soaring melodies, meticulously crafted productions and sincere, yet inventive lyrics, Bleu fans will wait no more for this pot to boil...."It truly means the world to me to finally get this record released. It always feels good to put your art out in to the world, but after all I`ve gone through for this material to see the light of day, the reward is particularly sweet."

"Fortunately this is worth the wait as this watched pot boils over with passionate melodies and dramatic energy. Opening with the expansive epic "Save Me," Bleu chronicles his journey through disappointments, it`s a signature tune with a great big sticky hook in the chorus. The production is flawless and is full of uplifting crescendos like in "Come N` Go" and for you L.E.O. fans a very lovely Lynne-ish "No Such Thing As Love" is as strong as anything The Secret Powers did earlier this year. Bleu`s approaches are very commercial and "Kiss Me" takes a note from vintage George Michael. The demons of a bad relationship, and blues pop take over "I Won`t F**k You Over" and make it another catchy must-listen, as well as the reason it`s got an advisory sticker. Another highlight is the inspirational "One Day" with a soaring melody. It`s not perfect, as the weariness of "What Now?" and "What Kind of Man Am I?"gets a bit overwrought. It doesn`t stay that way as "The Penguin Song" gets so sweet it would make Paul McCartney pucker. For the most part, this album is a strong contender for top ten of 2009 consideration." - Power Pop Aholic.

"Bleu has one of those voices that inspires, making the impossible seem all the more likely. Or maybe its the other way around, evoking sadness, as jealousy rides along while you listen to his high whimpered, precious falsetto. And then he brings it back down to actual human levels with a resounding lower tone. Careful not to wet your pants. His careful knack for the elegant pop song, mixed with a slight edge of folk/country, is not lost on the listener, and though the production might seem a bit over the top, I wonder if Bleu`s voice is suited for anything less. Having listened to the entire album, I do realize it can be described as `mainstream television` material. But I also can honestly ask, who cares when you have someone so talented on your hands (or in your ears, for that matter)? Sorry if your indie filter won`t let your pop sensibilities loose. Nearly every song has the ability to lift you to a level higher than you would imagine, with prominent, breathtaking strings and pulsating keys for staggering crescendos, which, when mixed with softer verses, create near transcendental moments." - Knox Road.
