Harem Scarem`s singer and main songwriter Harry Hess releases his solo album here. With this CD Harry intends to go back to certain sounds and atmospheres leaning more towards melodic rock and pop music, avoiding the heavier guitar approach typical of the last Harem Scarem release and with more in common with traditional pop/rock singer/songwriters. "Hess delivers what I have been expecting from him: material that can be described as melodic pop rock, in some cases tending towards AOR, like it was to be found on Harem Scrarem`s debut album, which is still my favourite to this day. Among the tracks I like most, are opener "Look Right Through Me" (featuring ex-Mr. Big`s Eric Martin on backing vocals), "Two Ways", "Undone" and "Sentimental Blvd", which is nothing else than the re-recording of a Harem Scarem song that was originally to be found on the band`s critically most acclaimed album "Mood Swings". Besides the aforementioned Eric Martin, other featured musicians include Harry`s right-hand man in Harem Scarem: Pete Lesperance, Darren Smith (ex-Harem Scarem), Mike Turner (ex-Our Lady Peace), Justin Abedin, Mike Borkosky (Mullmuzzler, Lee Aaron, Alannah Myles), Creighton Doane (Harem Scarem, ex-Honeymoon Suite) and Ray Coburn (also ex-Honeymoon Suite). I won`t go that far and say that this is an essential release, but if you like your melodic rock spiced with some pop overtones, then this dish could be something for you."RockReport. "Yes, he`s done it again. The catchiest songwriter in melodic rock has completed his debut solo album, which holds no surprises, in that it`s filled with only the finest hook friendly pop rock. Most solo albums see the artist branch out on a different route than the band and Harem Scarem`s Harry Hess is no different. Except on Just Another Day , we revisit Harry`s love of simple modern pop/rock, which Rubber certainly touched on. This is a little different from Rubber again, in that it`s a more laid back, moody, ballad-friendly environment than the uptempo feel good 3 minute fuzz-rock of Rubber. Essentially, this album is 9 moody pop rock ballads and once classic Scarem track revisited. "-Melodic Rock.
