MEET CITIZEN K - Somewhere Up North

Meet Citizen K is an album that is either going to BLOW some of you out the water or leave you feeling like you had a close encounter with pleasant acoustic-pop ephemera. It`s the former for me or it would not be on this site in front of your eyes and ears. Much of 16 songs here remind me of well-recorded Pete Townshend demos, the songs are strong enough to stand inside that analogy, too. Despite an overt lift from "Pinball Wizard" on "That Same Old Sue"(which is sample #1 below), the emotional punch that the material on "Somewhere Up North" brings doesn`t leave one with the impression that leader "K" is short on his own ideas but knows how to draw from them.

" What do you get if take a musician that grew up listening to The Beach Boys and has the latest David Mead album spinning on his Hi-Fi everyday? This artist also shows his love for the days of vinyl with the new CD looking just like a small vinyl both with the sleeve and the black disc. Well you get classic songwriting that sounds like it is taken straight out of the year 1975 with a warm production that is so far away you can get from a synthetic and digital sound. The album I`m talking about is "Somewhere up north" from Klas Qvist aka Citizen K, I have listened to this album 3 times in a row and I am really amazed over these story telling songs that leaves you with a feeling that you are connected to them in some way. Imagine a collaboration between Pete Townsend and the late Kevin Gilbert and we`re close to the sound of Meet Citizen K. Purchase this right away!" - Melodic.net.

There are many parts here that remind me of a more upbeat, chippier The Blue Nile and Trashcan Sinatras, which means that despite lacking big production budget, this modest gem plays for keeps, latches onto big, grandiose hopes of achieving sonic displays of heavenly splendor. Take some time, listen to what I have below - You will know right away if it`s for you or not. It certainly is for me - Grade "A" passion, beginning to end.
