Meet Citizen K is an album that is either going to BLOW some of you out the water or leave you feeling like you had a close encounter with pleasant acoustic-pop ephemera. It`s the former for me or it would not be on this site in front of your eyes and ears. Much of 16 songs here remind me of well-recorded Pete Townshend demos, the songs are strong enough to stand inside that analogy, too. Despite an overt lift from "Pinball Wizard" on "That Same Old Sue"(which is sample #1 below), the emotional punch that the material on "Somewhere Up North" brings doesn`t leave one with the impression that leader "K" is short on his own ideas but knows how to draw from them. There are many parts here that remind me of a more upbeat, chippier The Blue Nile and Trashcan Sinatras, which means that despite lacking big production budget, this modest gem plays for keeps, latches onto big, grandiose hopes of achieving sonic displays of heavenly splendor.
