Now, here's a band doing something different and still very appealing to what's going on here at Not Lame. Listen to "Bicentennial Baby" below and hear one of the catchiest songs of 2007! The album rocks hard, it's kind of like a Thin Lizzy guitar attack inside a modern-day glam-power-pop parade. " You know you're doing something right when you can fuse influences that normally lead bands into a morass of dumb-ass hard-rock sounds -- stuff like Led Zeppelin psychedelic blues, Black Sabbath's bag of riffs and a love for all things rockin' from the '60s and '70s -- and develop an impressive album. Yep, Birds of Avalon are really on to something.. Birds of Avalon are enough aware of their rock'n'roll history to make Bazaar, Bazaar sizzle, but allow it the wiggle room to make it more than a history lesson. The band's debut is a freewheelin' ode to most of what's great about rock'n'roll. "3 1/2 stars.. Featuring former members of boogie-revivalists Cherry Valence and production and mixing work by avowed Led Zeppelin and Uriah Heep fan Mitch Easter, the debut album by Birds of Avalon is an unapologetic throwback to 1970s FM rock. Unlike most similar denim and patchouli devotees, however, Birds of Avalon aren't interested in recreating one particular sound from the period. As a result, Bazaar Bazaar has songs that recall early Cheap Trick ("Bicentennial Baby"), Pink Floyd (the mellow, keyboard-heavy instrumentals "Where's My Jet Pack" and "Instant Coma," which may be the best things on the album), Peter Frampton ("Superpower"), a generation of trippy psych bands (the sitar-bedecked noodler "Think"), Hawkwind space-blooze ("Horse Called Dust") and any number of others. Tuneful, muscular and fearlessly retro, Bazaar Bazaar is rather like mid-period Redd Kross minus the McDonald brothers' inherent irony and sarcasm, and should appeal equally to hipsters looking for the new old thing and first-wave fans of the old classic rockers."-AMG. VERY Highly Recommended!!
