Aberfeldy - Young Forever | It`s nice to see sweetness coming back into hipster indie pop full-force. Aberfeldy combine acoustic instruments, blending male and female voices and intelligent lyrics to create some refreshing music in a similar vein to Belle and Sebastian. It is an album manages to make Belle And Sebastian sound like Slayer. Recorded as the whole band huddled round a single microphone, it has a snuggled warmth and gentle charm that stays firmly on the right side of sugary sweet in a Reindeer Section type way (only without any of the darkness or rock nods). "It is the aural equivalent of a duck down quilt, lulling you and enveloping your mind with its luxurious mix of strummed guitars, drizzled fiddle and gorgeous glockenspiel. From the toe-tapping surf of A Friend Like You to the headshaking harmonies of Out Of Love, all 12 songs on offer are tiny doses of honeyed splendour, particularly the strolling tale of drunkenness, Tie One On, and the harmonica melodies of Surly Girl. Aberfeldy have bottled the sound of tranquillity and gentle heartbreak, of startling innocence and youthful romance."-BBC. " Aberfeldy is named for a Scottish holiday destination, and the music on Young Forever is, at its essence, a more sophisticated take on the campfire song (with glockenspiel). The songs are romantic and melancholy without being maudlin or overly dramatic. "A Friend Like You" is adorable, "Love is an Arrow" is clever, "Vegetarian Restaurant" is cinematic, "Helliopolis By Night" is whimsical (bordering on novelty song). Songwriter Riley Briggs has constructed a wistful soundscape that`s thoroughly enjoyable. Pass the marshmallows, please"-CREEM.
