It`s not every day that an indie power pop release crosses my desk and you
see the name Carole Kaye on it. This one does and it thus moves itself to
the head of the class for many Not Lamers in the know(look her up on AMG, if you are not familiar with her). Kaye says this about Carrillo: "I was very impressed with John, his ideas, his complete professionalism and the way he sings. Takes a lot to knock me out, but he did." A few of the songs engineered by Mike Simmons from the fabulous Sparkle*Jets UK,John Carrillo - Von Karma "You can hear the Beatles, Ben Folds, and
Elliott Smith influences throughout. His vocals are great and interesting. The album is not over-produced, but somewhat produced, and spotlights his singing over the music. John a musician who sings his heart out and bares all in his music. This album features bass by Carol Kaye who played all the bass on The Beach Boys` Pet Sounds album and has worked with Ray Charles. Tracks 1-4, and 7 lean towards rock while the rest can be country-ish. Tracks 1 & 2, In the Market Square and Turn it up Dave!, are fun rockin`
tracks."-KVRX.com. "Carrillo sings in a pleasing, Matthew Sweet-ish tone,
but his ironic wit separates him from the sensitive male singer-songwriter norm."-Performing Songwriter. Very Highly Recommended!
