Bill Lloyd & Jamie Hoover - Paparazzi | A truly exceptional combination and remarkable effort by two of the most talented songwriting talents in the pop world, Bill Lloyd and Jaime Hoover (Spongetones). Joined by Smithereens drummer, Dennis Diken, this collaborative debut is everything their fans could ask for, with songs influenced equally by The Beatles, early Big Star, Anglo pop and Everly Brothers styled country; in addition to the requisite big, ringing guitars. "Jamie and Bill both wear their Beatles influences on their shirtsleeves,
and it is evident throughout the tracks on this disc. Every song has
melodic hooks, terrific vocals and mature power pop arrangements, but
standout jangly tunes include "It Coulda Been Me", "Really Not Alone" and
"Show And Tell" (which has some Buddy Holly/Bobby Fuller lineage and
compares favorably with Walter Clevengers recent work). Long may you run,
Sir Jamie and Sir Bill!"-Fufkin.com

| Reviewer: Bob Felberg | | What? Why are you reading this? You should have already added this to your cart and paid as quick as a bunny! If you are a pop lover-this not not disappoint in any way. Think of it like this: The Spongetones and Bill Lloyd and the Smithereens. That help?
Tuneful, musical, lovingly presented. Hooks, jangles, songs. bgv's-it's all here. "Better Left Alone" is a near perfect piece of power pop. The Queen like harmony lead guitars on "Still Not Over You" have such lovely tone that you'd swear that Brian May was in the room. "As You Were" with its "Bookends" acoustic lead in, is as light and touching as a warm summer day. So comfortable.
Enough reveries. Buy it. One listen will set your heart yearning for more. |
