Chuck Maiden`s "Adobe" is one of the stronger entries in the singer/songwriter department that you will hear in 2006, with his warm, intimate, moving and emotionally resonant songs falling the vein of classic Micheal Penn, Tom Petty, Joe Pernice, Jackson Browne, Lloyd Cole, Steve WYnn and Neil Finn. Pretty good, eh? You bet! This 4 star review in AMG is about his debut, but the description is accurate and appropriate for "Adobe", imho: "Adult pop in the tradition of Neil Finn and Michael Penn, Chuck Maiden`s debut album consists of 14 low-key but quietly appealing pop songs.. usically, the album is slick but not soulless, with enough melodic heft and catchy hooks per song to keep it interesting for those who care to listen more closely. Although perhaps not the arrival of a stunning and unexpected new talent, Morris Road is an entertaining listen that hints at more interesting work still to come." And that arrival, actually, is "Adobe"! There`s a spirit a the early/mid 70`s singer/songwriter era(think Asylum Records during this time), with Maiden crafting one strong tune after another inside plaintive, warm melodies. Maiden is the `real deal`, in the murky, ambiguous realm of `singer/songwriter`, his material shines certain light and is one we can very, very strongly recommend!
