MR. D - Wings & Wheels

From the UK, records like this don`t come around here enough, in our opinion. Mr. D reminds me a lot of our faves, The General Store, as wells as classic America, early Eagles and Jeff Larson. You could say it`s influenced by the soft-rock sounds of the 70s and I would not disagree with you, but the music has a timeless feel that can easily fit into any decade from the last 40 years and the coming 40 years, as well. Such is the music of Scotland`s Mr. D. "A near perfect Scottish-bred, guitar pop album that recalls Teenage Fanclub`s more amorous anthems, The Thrills` boyish adoration of California and Cosmic Rough Riders` penchant for harmonious pop that jingles, jangles and shimmers like golden Rickenbackers from the heaven above."-Rhapsody. "¯¿½¯¿½ Taking cues from the Byrds, America and fellow Glaswegians Teenage Fanclub, these songs mix Californian-styled sunny jangle-pop with Americana and a bit of country (especially in the pedal steel-heavy "Somebody, Somewhere"), often sounding in a vein similar to the Thrills."-IndiePages.

"8 out of 10. Ah those lazy, hazy days of summer. This could be from a sun-drenched Californian valley given it¯¿½¯¿½s Byrds-esque vibe and soft, genteel pop synchronicity. In fact its from Glasgow. Not necessarily the home of shimmering guitars and multi-tracked vocals, its in fact a city that is seeing somewhat of an emergence of this sort of music. Not since the days of Teenage Fanclub has the bowl cut been so popular. Not only a great sounding record `Wings And Wheels¯¿½¯¿½ has some killer pop tunes. "I¯¿½¯¿½ll Keep Looking Around" is exactly what The Thrills have been trying to do on two albums, whilst "Somebody Somewhere" is a lazy waltz around the floor with a simple, uncomplicated pedal steel tickling your ears for added joy. Steeped in that seventies sense of upbeat melancholia Mr D come across as a band with a real future ahead of them. This is the sort of record, that if picked up by a major would become a coffee table hit. Whether that will ever happen we will have to wait and see I suppose. For now I am going to make myself a large daiquiri, get out the nose beer and plough through my stack of Freak Brothers comics. Thanks Mr D, all of a sudden Lewes feels like Laurel Canyon."-AmericanaUK. Don¯¿½¯¿½t miss this one, it ranks right on up there!!
