Nick Pipitone will sound familiar to many Not Lamers as his previous band Pipitone(and Sugarsmack) has been a favorite here for the past few years, but here, on "Anything I Want To Say", Pipitone strikes out on his own with this irresistible and congenial solo outing. Each of the 5 songs here bring to mind some of the classic pop stylings of the late 70`s. "4++ out of 5.. Nick writes and records music that is heavily influenced by Elvis Costello. So much so, in fact, that some of the tunes on this EP sound like covers. Pipitone will be touring with his band The Four Forces of Evil to promote this EP. This is a fine little disc featuring five melodic effervescent pop tunes that are extremely hummable and catchy. We`d like to hear the Costello influences toned down just a bit however. With a little tweaking, this guy could become huge"-BabySue. Hmm, not sure I can agree with Costello observation, I did find the influence cloying or over-staying its welcome. One of the reasons is that, because this is a solo album, Pipitone is more ambitious and confident in the arrangements of each of the songs here and really pushes some fetching and felicitous arrangements here, each song dressed up with some memorable hook or sing-a-long chorus. A sure-footed and confident release, "Anything I Want To Say" states the obvious and delivers the goods. Very Highly Recommended!
