Now, this is our kind of semi-quasi-halfway there-covers album. Well, mini-album with 8 songs and 20 minutes that sound like The Buzzcocks "Singles Going Steady" played by The Runaways on spiked cocktail of a Rodney Bingenheimer inspired T. Rex and Ramones cover band. Rocket are an all-girl 4 piece of slumber, summertime party brattiness and sweetness. The 8 songs are a made-in-the-shade mutation of fuzzed-out guitars and synth-powered beach blanket boogie that reveals the girls` full-on love affair with punky `n` punchy summertime pop. Look at the songs here. You got to be kidding. It`s a record collector`s geeks` wet dream. And we don`t say that because Rocket are 4 very, uh, attractive young ladies, but let the track selection(and then listen to the soundbites, please) do the talking, walking and punching:
"Join The Professionals" - The Professionals (this was the post-Sex Pistols band with Steve Jones and Paul Cook) "Funtime" - Iggy Pop (`nuff sed) "Backstreet Boys" - Nick Gilder (worth the price admission alone!) "I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend" - The Ramones (note the lack of irony with given gender acceptance of this cover by an all-girl band) Rocket is a revolutionary concoction of fun, smiles, candy, bubblegum, and beating hearts. Coquettishness-meets-bombast, kittens-meet-rattlesnakes; Rocket is the launching pad for a new generation of pop flounce. The all-girl band mixes 60`s girl group innocence with 70s decibel-damaging boulevard beat and 80s glam wham swagger, a volatile combination that leaves one wondering what the results would be if the Shangri-Las crash landed onstage at the Starwood during an early Motley Crue gig. Younger, louder, and snottierthey are this generations children of the revolution. My Goodness, Rocket just do it. Right. Proud `n Loud and with a passion that any band should take close to the heart. Extremely Highly Recommended, yes indeed!!
