An effervescent debut album by rising Seattle stars The Shorewoods. Friends The Model Rockets, The Shorewoods share restless spirit of taking pop archetypes and turning them a bit on their sides, re-coloring and putting it all back together. And making an album that will stand the test of short-sighted times. Clever lyrics arrive in the layered vocals of songwriters Joe Lawless and Sean Bentley, amid the sumptuous interplay of 6 and 12-string guitars: jangling, chiming, buzzing, acoustic, electric. This is a guitar band, friends! Seattle music-scene veterans Mike Bristow (bass) and Jay Weaver (drums) provide the pungent rhythm, with occasional vists from keyboards, woodwinds, and tuned espresso machine. The band shares a love of power pop and their roots run deep and broad from 60s folk, `sunshine pop,` and psychedelia to punk and ska, from complex 70s `prog` rock to the concise, bittersweet dissonance of 21st Century `alternative` pop. Bathe in nearly an hour`s worth of 14 literate, melodic, danceable, power-pop gems, influenced by musicians as diverse as The dB`s, Barenaked Ladies, They Might Be Giants, The Last, Robyn Hitchcock, XTC, Squeeze ... but always retaining a unique sound.
"It`s hard to fault this band for periodic reliance on tried and true pop
chords. This 14-song debut disc is very impressive, and the Shorewoods
deserve comparisons with early Blue Rodeo and the aforementioned Gin
Blossoms."-Fufkin.com
