A jaw-droppingly great sophmore release, which provides evidence that good bands evolve and grow with each new release. We dug their debut "Analog Heads Gone French", but *really*, really dig "House On Fire". What do they sound like here? Hard to paint an exact picture as they subtly, smartly and savvily (yeah, not a word but we`re going for it) mix up inspirations from The Kinks, The Stones, , The Flamin` Groovies, The Replacements, Elvis Costello, MC5 and early World Party(the main lead singer sounds like Karl Wallinger) and then add some more modern touches like classic poppy Blur, Soul Asylum and Not Lame`s The Shazam and True Love in spots, too. Oh yeah, slip in the classic AC/DC riff but muted down for proper pop digestion. Best of all they have the spirit and pixie dust of boogie and rock `n roll sprinkled all over the place. Cool, cool, COOL!! The arrangements are smart and scruffy(ergo, that spirit-thing we were just talking about). If we did not dig this one so much, we`d be going back right now to that debut and checking that one out again. Next Week. This quote was on their debut, but it`s so cool and aplies here, have to pull it out: "loose lipped and hipped Stones disciples with a sunny wash of 70`s soul. Pop melodies bounce off old War and Replacements riffs and the whole thing just brings me right back into som edirty summer city block party years and years ago when such things were not only possible, but necessary....If Marc Bolan was from New York City, this is what it would sound like"-Sleazegrinder. In the meantime, Extremely Highly Recommended!!
