Stuart Valentine`s beautifully, melancholy-laden pop is a semi-lush, stripped down display of baroque-light pop sung in a whispery, thoughtful approach that most reminds me of Stephen Duffy in sound and song-writing style. "Melody`s True is straight-up indie pop, and Valentine has a confident touch with memorable melody lines...a coherent album of quality songcraft. It`s impossible not to hum along with such upbeat toe-tappers..." - Skyscraper. "4 stars.. Melody`s True is tranquil and sensitive. The Portland, Oregon singer/songwriter (who also spent time in Richmond Fontaine) has applied great use of his prior experience, playing nearly all instruments himself on his first solo record. The result is a wonderful collection of breezy rock, spearheaded by Valentine`s inviting vocals. Lyrically, his words go perfectly with the arrangements, whether he`s giving advice ("don`t go chasing what is gone/stop thinking that it`s all gone wrong") or telling a story ("he met a girl and they fell in love/they used to walk up in the hills and stare at the clouds above"). Given the simple content, it`s a timeless record, especially with the Velvet Underground-injected "Upside Down." The only complaint is that he didn`t make a solo album sooner."-AMG. Valentine has this very insightful comment on his music that I think is appropriate to share as it`s revealing to what`s going on inside of "Melody`s Tune": "I write songs like conversations meant to be overheard. They are subtle, personal and intimate but I think you can relate. Some of my songs have double meanings and sometimes the meaning is hidden. It`s important to me to write melodies that stick in your head - that`s my favorite kind of song.". A strong debut and we are certain that really great things are going to come on the horizon, Very Highly Recommended!
