2007 studio release! The Well Wishers have unleashed their latest opus
magnus and it is called "How I Won The War...". Jeff Shelton, the leader of
The Well Wishers, continues to hone and refine his special craft, which
we`ve always maintained sounds like Shoes. As in the classic power pop band,
Shoes. (not the things on yr feet!). Like this previous efforts with
Spinning Jennies and The Well Wishers, this latest work is easy to enjoy for
genuine power pop fans with chugging, melodic rhythms, powerful hooks,
angelic vocals, verses that tickle `n hint at `the great money shot of a
classic chorus and a respectful homage to pop peers. Those inspirations
include the Shoes, The Posies, Nada Surf and Matthew Sweet. The album marks
a notable artistic step forward and finds the band breaking through some of
the pure power pop barriers of their first two records. Drawing equal
influence from 80`s post-punk and classic power pop, the album offers a
poignant, yet decidely pessimistic take on the metaphors of love and war -
all wrapped in a dense, fervently melodic package. A classic band delivers
another prized pop winner.
