Classic Not Lame styled Power Pop in the vein of such timeless faves here as Jim Boggia, Michael Carpenter, The Grays, Cherry Twister( and Parallax Project), Marc Carroll, Paul Melancon, The Candy Butchers and Matthew Sweet. Most of these songs that sound like they belong on radio through-out the Western world, they are that good, that classic sounding. Armed with a keen sense of melody and sly harmonic twists and turns that sound at once familiar and new, cherubic-voiced Brookings brings his own upbeat personality to the plate." - Commercial Appeal. This is tectonic leap forward from his previous album, The End Of An Error. Strong as that album was, Chorus Verses The Bridge towers over this earlier work with a strong, confident artistic voice and a much stronger sense of melody. The pure pop
appeal is off the charts, such are the many charms of this release. Grade:
Solid "A".
Man, this is a mightily fine, fine, FINE release!! Don`t hear enough releases that remind us of the following folks. There`s a mystical George Harrison spirit that permeates the melodies here, along with snappy pop stylings of such artists as Micheal Penn, Cherry Twister, Cloud Eleven and Jeremy. "Stylistically, David Brookings goes off in many directions, stepping into the realms of Bowie, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Tom Petty and even Jane`s Addiction, while still managing to create a sound that is uniquely his own."- Punchline. Guess we can hear the Jane`s Addiction angle, but it`s JA on when they did their rocking acoustic work, *not* the disorto side -- Let`s be clear there, as this a pure singer/songwriter pop album, make no bones about it. His honest, yet commanding vocals convey a stream of consciousness that one can find both haunting and familiar. Moreover, Brookings blend of guitar-melody and complex chord structures add a lasting brilliance to his songs. VERY Highly Recommended!
