David May played in a wonderful power pop band we were big fans of some years back called She Said. Here, he bows back into the arena with his first solo album that is as heartfelt and moving as you`ll hear. It has a Laurel Canyon, Southern California spirit that is right out of the 70`s bringing to mind C,S,N & Y and The Eagles but it`s more than that, of course. It`s grounding, while inspired from the past, is completely in the present as fans of Michael Penn, Jon Brion, Neil Finn and Ryan Adams will find plenty here to embrace and take into the comforts of quality listening time(reminds me a bit of an more obscure old fave, too..Pousett-Dart Band). May`s warm vocals(man, he knows how to record his voice), relaxed emotional sincerity, lulling beautiful melodicism, crisp guitar sounds and smooth song craft take center stage with each of the 11 songs here. Confident and full of heroic confidence, "My Big Car" is that rare record that in its mellow-ish charms packs a powerful punch and easy, pleasant affect on the ears. Extremely Highly Recommended!
