I LOVE this band...so enjoy all their releases, but this one, their fifth, is their best! IT`s all put together here! Dallas` favorite rock band, The Deathray Davies, have been bringing their fuzzed-up rock to the people since 1999. The Kick And The Snare is a big, immediate album so drenched in pop intuition and savvy arrangements that if radio still played rock `n roll, it could be a generation soundtrack mixing aspects of Sloan, Spoon, New Pornographers and The Kinks. Interesting mix? Well, The Deathray Davies is ALWAYS interesting! Deathray Davies mines a cleverly cool sound that snaps, crackles and pops with energy. A band that draws inspiration from the garage rock and British rock of the Sixties alongside the more present-day bands mentioned before here. "If it`s possible to rock listeners into blissful oblivion while simultaneously spinning them into deep contemplation, the Deathray Davies is the band to do it." - Paste. The Kick And The Snare underlines the DRD`s ability to sound at once wistful and optimistic, delicate and driving. "Release The Squid" sets an insistent guitar refrain and tom-propelled groove against Dulfilho`s plaintive verse melody, before the beat straightens out into a harmony-heavy chorus cooled with late-`60s breeze. "Plan To Stay Awake" turns a frantically taught, almost new-wave verse (not to mention record-breaking wordiness) into a panoramic hook. "Channeling `60s Brit-invasion sensibilities through the Replacements` ragged pop, their new The Kick and the Snare is perhaps their definitive statement."-LA Weekly. Don`t miss this band, if you`ve not heard them!
