This one of those bands more people need to be aware of and now that
their
third album, Octopus, hits these shores, now is the time. You can
practically feel the warm glow of the vintage vacuum tubes as you
excavate a
long-long jukebox full of unheard songs by Buffalo Springfield, C,S,N&Y,
The Byrds, and for that matter, Small Faces. Translation: great
vocals all
over the place with songs. Despite the cacophony of styles, the
songwriting
is tightly focused. Which brings up the creative tension between
songcraft
and originality. So steeped in swinging psych and gum-tingling hooks and
melodies, it's hard to fathom why more pop fans are not buzzing on this
bands' entire output. "4 stars.. Outlandish and of infinite humour,
Octopus
is an LP to die for."-MusicOMH.com. "8 out of 10... The Bees
belong to
that patchy tradition of British eclectic-ists (Super Furries, The Coral,
The Zutons, er, Space) whose recorded output is the aural equivalent of
patiently working your way through a tube of Fruit Pastilles with the
dawning realisation that most of them are orange. Itıs a brand you
trust..
So let the cynics bleat their anti-nostalgia mantras from 30 years ago
til
the cows come home - The Bees have made a record sparkling with enough
wit
and ingenuity to make the past seem an undiscovered country well worth
visiting."-DrownedInSound. A band to NOT let fall between the cracks!!
