ONLY ONE OF THESE - been hard to find! WOW – a tour-de-force from one of Not Lame’s favorite songwriters which 98% of you there are unaware of. (all h is other releases are out of print except Not Lame’s “Fugitive Girls”, which you should run go check out now!) “The Sweet Songs Of Decay” is….so real, human and alive with soul. What I wrote years ago about Frank Bango hold true and right today - This record is one of sheer song writing brilliance. it will grow on you. it will seep into your soul. It will provide the soundtrack for unrequited love or suddenly found love. it will live with you. evoking the spirit of classic Costello prose, Michael Quercio meets Left Banke baroque melodicism. fugitive girls shows a real, long lasting pop talent coming into his own. This is sweet, lyrically swervy and twisted pop craft rarely seen or heard. "If there winds up being three pop albums better than this in 2008, then the music industry will be a blessed place – because those would have to be three damn fine albums. Frank Bango's put together an engaging set of tunes that only gets better with every listen – so much better, in fact, that The Sweet Songs of Decay's got to be a front-runner on the short list for best album of 2008 thus far. "
Delusions of Adequecy . “ Praise for Bango for producing "some of the best and most original pop music that almost no one has ever heard" initially appeared as a hyperbole to me, but The Sweet of Songs of Decay proves to make the statement startlingly accurate. When Bango began the writing process for the album, he had a vision to create an adult’s album for children. As he looks back though, it has turned out to be more accurately demonstrative of a children’s album for adults. In a bit of a role reversal, this can be gathered rather humorously from the album cover, a striking image that depicts Bango sitting down with a deadpan state next to someone dressed in an Easter bunny’s suit. The central meaning of The Sweet Songs of Decay, however, is more emotional than it is humorous. Bango was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer the day after the album was mastered and the albm’s theme appropriately coincides with Bango’s belief that everyone – regardless of health – should value each passing day as if it were their last. It is a mentality that is commendably bittersweet, and though his cancer was diagnosed after the album’s completion, the ideology that he displays should leave fans to believe that Bango will continue to make music for quite some time. It is clearly a love of his and he does it extraordinarily well, meaning that we should perhaps expect another album by 2012.”- Obscure Sound. “I have so much to say about Sweet Songs of Decay and Frank in general but there just aren't enough words in any dictionary ANYWHERE to describe exactly what that is. In trying, I'll go with a few like stunning, whimsical, childlike, tender, gorgeous, uplifting, heartbreaking, stirring, blissful and moving. Frank Bango is pure joy and so is this record.”- Gail George. It had some a few years since I have spent quality time with the music of Frank Bango – hazard of the trade where you have to listen to 50-100 new CDs every *week* to find what is good. It creates a build-up on your ears, where the numbing affect of so m any increditly UN-talented people can now make music, who should not – you hear so much of what truly blows you can miss the ‘truly great’ right in front of your eyes and ears – Fortunately, the power of “The Sweet Songs Of Decay” is such that it’s transcendence is hard to miss. If there is such thing as a laid-back wallop, this is it. Wonderfulness Incarnate.
