Back in 2008, there was a CD on this site from a band called Father Bloopy that blended early 70s Bowie, ELO, Lou Reed, Flaming Lips, Beck and lots and lots of Ray Davies(yes!), leaving that unusual name behind and becoming Ex Norwegian, leader Roger Houdaille continues to use those influences on this new band but with a more updated, modern sound(think T. Rex playing The Killers) and ending up with a powerful debut that I find, upon my 4th listen now, as something that not only grows impactfully on me but finding itself as being a record I will grow old with. Such are the unique yet accessible many charms on "Standby" "To call their debut album "Standby"infectious is a bit of an understatement. This is a stellar pop album that should be widely embraced by radio for its outstanding guitar rock and quirky vocal deliveries." -Exploding In Sound. "Classic guitar power-pop of yesteryear. Possibly the only young, attractive local band to cite Badfinger as an influence, Ex-Norwegian has absorbed that group`s (and Big Star`s, and the Raspberries`) penchant for wistful, sliding melodies over a pleasantly, slightly dirty guitar chug. Still, the songs have enough of a new-indie polish to keep the less music-history-educated kids happy, too. Alex Chilton would be proud." Cross Fade. "Ex Norwegian manage to combine powerpop, classic rock and indie music to set themselves apart from what`s already out there." Miami.com. Don`t miss this one - Extremly Highly Recommended!
