Go figure. NO one - and I mean `no one` - in the power pop world is talking about Fun. I am aghast and shocked as to why. (Fun. is new project of ex-The Format leader Nate Ruess) Blending classic ELO and Jellyfish inspired harmonies, some over the top Queen-ish-isms and a healthy obsession with all things `the 70s` updated for modern palettes, Fun(who like to spell their name "Fun." - with a period for SEO purposes, I`m guessing) are more than aptly named. "Aim And Ignite", also, contains one of THE very best songs of 2009 you will hear. Flat out, fact. Listen, right now, to Song #1 below. I`ll wait. Do it, pretty please.
Okay, what do you think? Love it or Leave it? If the later, go have yrself a nice day and get back to work and not waste your time on this site. OH, get this, too - Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. helps out(and does the arranging of the material here) and Steven MacDonald of Redd Kross produces! Like I said - WHY is no one talking about Fun?! Have we all become that over inured and over-saturated with choice and free music to download up the gazoo we forgot how to have....uh, fun with discovering new music? Apparently. Now, the 10 songs here are not all perfect but I can`t get enough of 7 or 8 of them and the lead off track is the one mis-step for my ears(at least, for a lead-off track). Let a site called Absolute Punk clue pop fans into what`s going on here: "It is impossible for anyone to remain in a bad mood after listening to Aim & Ingite in full. It is one of the most fulfilling albums I`ve heard in a while. The brain trust of fun. - Ruess, Dost, and Antonoff - have something to be extremely proud of; an album that is and will be well received from critics and fans alike. Aim & Ignite is what a pop album should sound like. Hell, Aim & Ignite could even cheer up Rob Gordon. So turn those frowns upside down, as fun. has released the most essential pop album of 2009.". Wake up and smell the coffee and smile......
