Fred - Sound Awake

Produced by Jellyfish member, Chris Manning(Roger`s brother), Fred will certainly appeal to many Jellyfish fans. While not all the material easily falls into `sounds just like Jellyfish vibe", there`s a few songs that sound like they walked off of "Bellybutton", in particular "Piscetarrius" and "Sound Awake". There`s a strong sunshine, almost bubblegummy feel of bands like The Association, some Squeeze, Spy Mob, Steely Dan, Wondermints and Raspberries. In fact, lead singer Freddie Lemke will draw comparisons, vocally, to Eric Carmen for many. Lemke is a sophisticated songwriter distinguished by a remarkable voice and deft keyboard mastery. Fred, the band, play piano-driven, melodic pop-rock with soaring lead vocals, four-part harmonies, dramatic guitar, subtle bass underpinnings, and powerhouse drums. All Access: "fred ought to have a warning label: potentially addictive, may cause euphoria, increase awareness and promote well-being.. The songs that comprise Sound Awake--both sunny and ethereal--recall a tradition now lost in the maze of contemporary pop: the well-made song crafted by a master craftsman singer-songwriter that are arranged and performed by a well-oiled music machine. Composer Freddie Lemke writes tunes evocative of the best rock has to offer: writers who craft pop standards, an epiphany for listeners who feel bewildered in a hip-hop fueled landscape wondering how the golden era of tunesmiths of the 60s and 70s failed to produce any worthy heirs.. Like your favorite albums which deepen with multiple listenings, Sound Awake grows with greater meanings and layers, opening its range and complexities like a full-bodied Zin." "After a whole year of pop-garage, its nice to have something deep to sink into. Im not talking about the black, foamy corridor of The White Stripes Elephant. Im talking about Fred: a hot San Francisco band with late 70s whiplash. Like a gargantuan set of headphones, their LP Wonderful presents a hybrid of David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, and Cat Stevens. With long piano solos, and lyrics that double as a thesis statement on life, Fred gives punk the middle finger.. Freds Wonderful is an album worth buying, driving, arriving, and stayin alive to. Years ago, everybody had faith in the American economy, foreign oil, Buddhist meditation, and John Travolta. We might know better now, but to forget our troubles we can only remember."-SanFrancisco2Night.com. Not a lot of bands explore the myriad of styles and influences as Fred does and do it with success. Mission Accomplished. Extremely Highly Recommended!
