YES! 7 new songs from Greg Pope, whose solo debut "Popmonster" dazzled amazed a LOT of you Not Lamers in the last 9 months. Rightfully so. It was in my Top 5 for 2008 and here he goes again, blowing me away and surely you, too. Listen to the samples below. " Pete" starts off into a classic, CLASSIC power pop treasure called " Fall Into Your Arms" . You listen to this now and let it-melodic perfection stun you to play it again. The 6 songs that follow that one do not let up, either. There are parts of this album that evoke Cheap Trick first two albums, classic The Shazam, Matthew Sweet and more(" How Do You Do It" harkens back to The New Radicals, if you remember them), but really what is going on here is Pope really coming into his own footing with his talents and blowing them out the door with results. "10 out of 10! like Pop Monster it still has those wonderful layers upon layers of heavy guitar, evidenced by the opener "Fall into Your Arms." The melodies continue to evoke Badfinger, The Who, Led Zepplin, Guided By Voices and his last band, Edmund`s Crown. With the next song "Help Yourself" it continues the melodic guitar assault. "How Do You Do It" has a 70`s-era bass line mixed with a funky rhythm. The big melodic single "Roll With It" is very much in the Emitt Rhodes mold with a dash of Pope`s multi-layered Beatle touches in the chorus, and even the "Lady Madonna" bassline...The fact remains that every song here is simply brilliant and I am ready blast this music on my car stereo this summer. In other words, Pete is most worthy follow up to Pop Monster -- and just as impressive. I don`t really rate EPs in a top ten at the end of the year, but I`m ready to declare this the best EP I`ve heard so far." - Power Pop A Holic. "t`s Greg Pope`s power pop world, and we`re all just living in it. That`s the only conclusion to be made after he`s followed up last year`s Absolute Powerpop #1-rated album Popmonster with this brilliant 7-song EP. Pope`s sound is a compendium of power pop through the ages - from British Invasion to the "mod" sound of The Who to straight-up 70s styled Badfinger/Raspberries pop to the today`s modern power pop." - Absolute Power Pop blog. Top Shelf Results. Put these two releases of his side-by-side and their greatness for the power pop genre are clear. If someone asks you, "Hey, what is this so-called power pop stuff anyway?" Pull " Pete" pull " Popmonster" out and let them hear. Grade: Solid `A`all the way.
