It has been over 5 years since we last heard of Australia`s Halfday and their excellent "Now We Be Happy", which is still very much available again on this site. So much to LOVE here on "Giants On The Foreshore". It`s super smooth and silky in the vocal department - anyone who is picky about the quality of vocals in their pop, I would be shocked if you don`t listen Nathan Lockwood`s perfect takes all over this album and not fall for the charms here. There is layer after layer of subtle, supple touches in every song. There`s no question, being Australia, a talented music can`t help but be influenced by Crowded House and Halfday are. Like that band, they have an effortless, laid-back quality to the high-brow song craft, intensely moving vocals, a doctorate from the School of Interesting Production and a healthy, latent but controlled obsession with The Beatles. There are many moments on the CD that will remind fans of Swedish pop of excellent bands like Beagle, The Merrymakers and The Grass Show(good example is song #1 below). As intense as many of the songs` attention to detail are, the album comes up as an exercise in comfy ease, there`s a mood that creeps in as the listener goes from song to song and, for me, it was a realization that if this was album five years in the making, it was worth every day of gestation to end up where it has. It`s intoxicating, intense and all wrapped up with beautiful sound after sound in every creak, crack, nook and cranny of the mix. A stunner. Simply, a stunner.
