Hanz Erik And The Hims - Copay |
Hanz Erik And The Hims come from Minneapolis and their sound is one that is not explored enough in the realm of power pop probably because it has such overt commercial overtones, but if there is a way for a pure pop artist to hit the charts and go *big*, Erik`s combination of soulful fun rhythms clearly influenced by Prince might be a way to go. Fans of Toy Matinee and Squeeze (Erik sounds a lot like Chris Difford) will find a lot here to enjoy. And while this may be scary for some, songs like "All" sound like they could have walked off of a Toto album from the 70`s. On the other side, the following one, "Potential Energy" sound like Joe Jackson circa 1980, such is the spunky energy Erik And The Hims exhibit. On a few others, the sounds of fellow Minneapolis-based band Spymob are clearly on display. It`s a bit over-diverse for its own good, one could argue, but that is only the sound of a talented artist finding confident footing and experimenting, stretching his musical wings to see where he`ll land. It`s a fascinating ride on the back of those wings, too. Very Highly Recommended!
