SCOTT BROOKMAN - A Song For Me, A Song For You

Take this for a sample-spin below, folks. Fans of Todd Rundgren(check out song #2 and #3 below), "Friends"-era Beach Boys, Steely Dan, Nilsson and XTC make sure you don`t miss "A Song For Me, A Song For You" by Scott Brookman. "Musically, Brookman brings to mind The High Llamas` homages to Brian Wilson. These atmospheric tunes are melodic, witty, yearning and sometimes melancholic. They`re also frequently hypnotic and always engaging" David Gofstein, Cool and Strange Music! "Sounds like a well-studied tribute to the jazz-inflected pop of 70s artists such as Todd Rundgren and Donald Fagen, with the prerequisite underpinning of Brian Wilson and Beatles melodies. A talented arranger and smooth - if not flashy - singer, Brookman freely mixes it up musically, incorporating elements of bossa nova, jazz and rock on these 14 tracks. Winsome, piano-led sing-a-longs such as "Getting Involved with Me " sound like lost 70s cuts off lesser-known Beach Boy albums, while "Home School " is clearly a nod to Steely Dan, its eastern flavors commingling with subtle organ grooves and sharp lyrics. Whatever your take on thinking man`s yacht rock, Brookman is damn good at capturing its soft-boiled essence while adding his own bells and whistles through modern digital production" - Style Weekly.

"These are some of the most deceptively straightforward pop-songs since 10cc and Steely Dan. High Llamas made a record a little bit like this with "Santa Barbara. A warm world of beauteous piano-drenched pop ditties. There are touches of Todd, Andy Partridge, Steely Dan, Beach Boys, etc., but this is very much Scott`s own clear vision, using craftsmanship in the service of the songs (rather than the other way around), played with authority and wit. He shares with the Beatles a sense of the special musical touch that`s needed for each song`s sensibility, whether it be sleigh bells here ("Seabird") or a Bacharach-style trumpet line there ("The way it feels to lose"). And yes, these tunes are catchy as hell." - CDbaby."Brookman`s work reminds one of the days when actual songs, not "tracks," were written, while remaining wholly original and new. If, after the first listening, you don`t play this album again immediately, you may have missed something important musically.......He could easily be named one of the most diverse musicians and songwriters right now, so not giving this album at least one listen would almost be a crime." - Indie Music Stop. VERY Highly Recommended!

Great album
Reviewer: Alex  Johns
You like `quirky` pop, with strong Paul McCartney and XTC inclinations of the best possible sort, then you owe it to yourself to get this album. And if you can track down a copy of Scott`s previous album `For Those Who Like Pop` on the Twee Kitten label, do yourself a favour and grab that too. Alex, AKA`retrodog`.

Five stars record!
