JOE LYNCH - Taking My Time | Here is a nice left-field surprise! "Taking My Time" by Joe Lynch has two distinct personalities that, throughout, it tries to reconcile and which could end up in two different paths to take for the artist. Fortunately, they both are a delight to listen to. I prefer the new-wavey power pop of half the material over the more modern singer-songwriter stylings. Listen to Song #1 below - sounds like long lost cut from The Cars, circa 1981. Other songs keep the Cars-theme in place and for Not Lamers who recall Time Bomb Symphony(Darren Robbins, Destroy The Heart), the grinding pop chords will be familiar territory. Another fave is "Upside Down" (Song #5 below) brings to mind The Gin Blossoms. Home-brewed projects like this can sometimes be so one-dimensional and tinny but Joe Lynch knows his way around his resources and has a rich, solid sound with all the instrumentation here and, beginning to end, while it`s a bit in `two places at once`, it works not only swimmingly but refreshingly! Recommended!
