First off, classic Not Lame stuff. Second, a story: I first came across Jordan Zevon a years back listening to the `unsigned artists` station on XM Satellite Radio while I was doing some summer painting. Got down off the ladder to find out who was playing, wrote the name down and next day tried to Google him w/ no luck. Shortly after that, Jordan Summers from All Day Sucker(check this band out now!) emails me to say he just produced Jordan and I`m like "I know that guy!". Now, you should, too. Let me tell you why. Now, we carried h is EP back in 2005 but that is out of print and this new full length is now all you have in its place! And a fine place it is. VERY fine! Described by Summers as XTC driving down the Pacific Coast
Highway(SoCal) in a convertible, I`d not disagree out of hand, but I`d add the following to any gathered list (afterall, that`s what we love to here,
right?!): The Grays(very much so), Squeeze, Paul Simon, Costello, Warren Zevon(yes, he`s his son so there ya go w/ any DNA connection you want to
weave) and Barenaked Ladies. Well, heck yeah, man! Listen to "The Joke`s On Me"(song #2 below) and if you can say "No Way, Bruce..that does not sound like The Grays, Micheal Penn or Jason Falkner", well, I`ll take my ball and go on home. How about the song "This Girl"(song #4 below) ? Familiar with The Vanity Project(cool side project of Barenaked Ladies) or Jim Boggia? Like that. "Too Late To Be Saved"(not below, sorry, picked other songs to check out) reminds these ears of the fab The Argument. So the translation? Just great, great pop ala Not Lame. A striking debut by an artist to keep an eye on for the future and ear connected in the present! “4 stars. Insides Out is an accomplished and impressive debut, but it follows a musical path a great deal different than the trail Warren Zevon blazed(he is the son of Warren). The Beatles are a far more recognizable influence on Insides Out than the elder Zevon, and Jordan's smart, energetic pop tunes suggest that Elvis Costello, XTC, and Fountains of Wayne get heavy rotation on his personal playlist; the tunes are well-crafted, hook-laden pop with rich, buoyant keyboards, sharp guitar accents, and lyrics that balance wit with a keen observational eye. Jordan wisely pursues a sound and approach that stand comfortably on their own, and his quick-witted, classicist's approach to pop reflects that the guy took his sweet time honing his talents before making his way to the recording studio. For fans of smart pop, Insides Out is an unexpected delight and the calling card of a major talent to watch.” Extremely Highly Recommended!
