Jeff Larson - New Antiques

2007 release!! What can be said about Jeff Larson here that we have not said before. He`s been a favorite and sales-burner for over 10 years here. Gorgeous, flowing, mountain-high tracked vocals that breeze along like a walk on the beach, Larson knows how to sing to the heavens and has a voice very much like Ritchie Furay(Poco, et.al) or Gerry Beckley(America), as a matter of fact, Beckley helps out with his talents here, as does the every-jaw dropping sounds of Jeffrey Foskett. "Northern California singer/songwriter/guitarist Jeff Larson, held in high esteem by peers, offers an outstanding new acoustic album. With a soothing voice, honest lyrics and engaging melodies, Larson recalls the heyday of folk-country-rock, when artists such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and Rick Nelson`s Stone Canyon Band reigned. America`s Gerry Beckley is featured on the Neil Young-esque opener "Hapless Sky." This album quietly commands attention. It will bring a reverential hush to the room."- PALO ALTO DAILY NEWS.

"New Antiques" trends on a more acoustic-driven grounding but all the hall marks of his sound are here, but most importantly, Larson just does not know how to write mediocre material as his catalog of truly stellar music continues to grow every year. " a magical evocation of a sublime epoch in pop music - where breezy rhythms coalesced with rustic sensibilities topped with luscious melodies and harmonies that entranced and thrilled."-ThePowerOfPop. "Grown-up rock music that never shies away from lyrical erudition and musical excellence - rarities in the modern rock landscape" - Bucketfull of Brains. Top-Shelf, Top-Notch, no filler whatsoever.

New Antiques ~ A Nice Steady Visual Frequency for sure!
Reviewer: Nancy  Holtz
Hi Everyone ~~ I have had my copy of this cd since April 25th and I am loving getting to know these songs by heart. Once again Jeff has found a way to carry me along on a NIce VisualFrequency, with this nice Ear Candy . I love everything about these songs. Jeff is right on with his accoustics as well as lyrics and vocals. Hapless Sky gets things off on a nice foot tapping start, a comfortable blend of magic always comes from Jeff working with Gerry Beckley of America. Waiting for the Mail is sooo nice, Jeff definitely can stir one's inner most thoughts with his lyrics. The gentle strummin, the sensitive lyrics, the nice twist of curiousity it brings to me. Carbon has that rich accoustic hard edge that Jeff can work nicely. Once again a visual of this song can come to me, I love how Jeff nails this one right on, Hank Linderman adds a nice touch to this song too. Morning till Noon, such a nice upbeat song, I can appreciate the visual stirred up by this song. This song has a really nice blend of accoustics along with mind stirring lyrics, that will have you tapping and humming along too. At the Depot is a neat twist, kinda bluegrassy, very easy to hear Jeff's inspiration from the early music that inspired him. This song is kind of different, but is definitely very creatively put together. Next up is, Don't Mind the Rain, this song is a very comfortable song, I always love the way Jeff can set the mood with his lyrics, just the right choice of words nicely accented with his vocals, accented by some nice magic with the piano, guitar and harmonica. Each song flows nicely into the next, in this case this one winds down slowly, then Coldwinds picks you right back up and carries you higher. Another one of Jeff's hard edged songs. He nails this one too. I love the soft edged bridge in the middle of this song, it fits in perfectly. On Force of a Smile, Beth Campbell's softer harmonizing adds a nice touch to this song. The outcome is a nice sentimental gem for sure. Hmmm next up is an all musical song called Morris Air and this song has me very curious indeed. I love this short snappy rich blend of accoustics, that makes me want to flow along with every beat. I would love to know just what is Morris Air. I find myself feeling like I am on a sail boat set on high sail with the wind blowing in my face. Now comes my most favorite song called This Frequency, I can't say enough about this new gem, I love love love, everything about it, I love the accoustics, I love Jeff's vocals, I love love love his stirring lyrics, the way I can sooo easily get lost in their grip. There is a nice guitar rip that adds such a forceful edge to lyrics setting the scene of this Frequency that brought Jeff to write this song. I love the soft harmonizing accompanying Jeff on this. I have hit the replay on this song sooo many times already, and I don't think I will ever get enough of it's magic. I truly appreciate Jeff's freshness in this song. Last but definitely not least is the song Coffee at MIdnight and this song really is filled with it all. Jeff's sentimental magic is weaved in and out on this song. I love his choice of metaphors used. I can very easily relate with the sentiments in this song. I have to say that I can hear a touch of Dan Fogelberg's story telling magic in Jeff on this song. I am very happy to have this cd to add to my other cds of Jeff's. He truly is a Hidden Gem that needs to be discovered fully. Keep this frequency going Jeff, I can't wait to hear more from you! Sooo if you haven't heard any of Jeff's music, do yourself a favor and get this cd, I know you will find it hard to escape. Take care, Nancy :)
