GET listening to the soundbites below. Now, many of you - myself included - were big fans of Lamar Holley`s last project, Confessions Of A College Student. Holley dials back the instrumentation on `Lo-Fi` and goes for a more song-oriented, keyboard/piano base and, in the process, has created an fascinating, striking and totally awesome pondering of Brian Wilson baroque construction, Jellyfish, Queen and Jon Brion inspiration. I think you`ll hear much of what`s in that sentence by just listening below, actually. Let your ears be the judge rather than the words here, right? Musically it concentrates on keyboards and perfect harmonies that plays a bit like Ben Folds without the bitterness--The compositions here are full of cascading melodies and layer upon layer of harmonies, dense instrumental details and genuine passion. Every song here is meticulously constructed for maximum emotional impact and simply, straightforwardly presented. While musical theater has long borrowed from pop, Holley`s "theater-pop" borrows from musical theater: character-driven songs with evocative settings. Complete with Brill Building style arrangements, Lamar Holley`s `Lo-Fi` is going to warm you with its storytelling and melodic grounding. Extremely Highly Recommended!
