LONG TALL SHORTY - The Sound Of Giffer City | YEAH!! Late 70s punks, listen up! Long Tall Shorty deliver the sonic power of the first two albums from The Saints, late-era MC5, The Dead Boys, The Heartbreakers, early Sham 69 and Angelic Upstarts and more. It`s riffage, it`s slash `n burn and it`s highly melodic as this style of punk can be(fans of this stuff will hear what I mean). Long Tall Shorty first came onto the scene in the late 70s and were more of a Jam-styled Mod band with strong Who-isms. This new album, recorded in 2009 is all punk - great punk. Really great punk. Sonic Reducer, indeed. "The Sound Of Giffer City" is the bomb - literally.

| Sound of Giffer City by LONG TALL SHORTY | |
| Reviewer: tania randall | | I bought this LP out of curiosity because I used to be a fan back in the early 80`s when Long Tall Shorty were part of the UK mod revival movement.
Holy shit, was I surprised when I heard this though! It`s basically, the New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Iggy and the Stooges plus 70`s punk bands like Generation X and the Buzzcocks.
Every song is less than 2 minutes long and the whole LP is only about 32 minutes but after the first time I listened to it, it was like I`d revisited my youth back on the Strip going to the Roxy and the Whisky. I haven`t heard a record that has given me that feeling for about 25 years, AMAZING.
Highlights are Turn It Up, definately a hit record, Family Tree which is pure Buzzcocks and then of course, the cover of One Track Mind. Hell there`s even a fair stab at early Jesus and Mary Chain on here with the last track, The Other Side.
If you buy one LP this year, GET THIS ONE!! Shorty are back in style and sounding better than ever. God only knows what drugs these guys have been taking but they work. |
