Lynne Me Your Ears - A Tribute to Jeff Lynne

OUT OF PRINT. Only a few copies left! Now RARE!!

Encompassing the unique and exhilarating career trajectory of Jeff Lynne`s musical work from Idle Race to his recent solo work, this 2 CD tribute collection is NOT `just another tired tribute`, rest assured. Since Lynne`s musical inspiration extends to a diverse cross-section of talented artists, Lynne Me Your Ears will reach out and present Lynne`s ambitious synergy and fusion of classical music and out-right great rock `n roll to a larger audience in a fresh and vibrant manner.

Not Lame is proud to announce this excellent collection of Lynne`s songs; by the following artists: Jason Falkner, Todd Rundgren, Jeffrey Foskett (Beach Boys, Brian Wilson) , SWAG (featuring members of Wilco, The Mavericks), Jamie Hoover (Spongetones), Richard Barone, Sixpence None The Richer, Carl Wayne (The Move), Bill Lloyd, The Shazam, Bobby Sutliff/Mitch Easter, Neilson Hubbard, Peter Holsapple, Ben Lee, Doug Powell, Tony Visconti (yes, the producer), Pray For Rain (PFR), Fleming And John, Earl Slick, Ross Rice, Michael Carpenter, Mark Helm, Prairie Sons and Daughters, The Heavy Blinkers, The Balls of France, Ferenzik, SparkleJets UK, Walter Clevenger, Jeremy, Rick Altizer, Roger Klug, and Pat Buchanan. Not lame - positively athletic!

I would normally be the first person to laugh and snear at a cover compilation - they`re normally done by people who do their best to destroy good songs, by trying to copy them and failingly miserably, instead coming across as some of the worst X Factor rejects - people who should really be dangling weights from their ears or shoving objects down their thorats instead of making music. Added to this, I`m a massive Jeff Lynne / ELO fan so things weren`t looking that promising. But...wait a minute... these guys aren`t trying to ape Jeff Lynne, ELO etc at all .. these are completely original takes of the songs - and many of them are damn good at that. At worst, the ones I`m not so keen on are at least `refreshing.` Highlights? Check out Tony Visconti`s Mr Blue Sky - this guy`s got some nerve to record it this way (just listen and you`ll see what I mean). If he was any more laid back he`d be sleep walking. This version is needless to say, nothing like the original and takes the song to another place completely - yet still a place that`s well worth a visit! Then there`s Carl Wayne`s Steppin Out - another ELO favourite of mine - but carried off very well indeed. I was most curious though, to hear the Shazam`s Twilight - another favourite and probably one of the hardest (you would think) to cover. Once again another quite surprising take that actually works. This double album is, in fact, full of surprises, and most of them very pleasant indeed!
