M.J. Peters - The Creaking Stair | Here`s a one of a kind release and, no, that does not mean overly wacky,
strange or downright weird! M.J. Peters mines the territory of Martin
Newell, Andy Patridge and more recent XTC and Robyn Hitchcock. Maybe some
They Might Be Giants, although, I`ve never been a big fan of that band must
say(but am of M.J. Peters!). But the embrace of `67-`69 era Beatles, those
wondrous Lennon-esque acid-soaked excursions, is welcome and present here.
Translation: This all means there is a vaguely underlining of psychedelic
dreaminess inside the melodies that waft gently over many of the songs here,
while others are - okay you got me - a bit, uh, wacky `n weird. But in a
(very) good way! All the material here is sweetly breezy, a creative pop
porridge stirred up with whimsical, simply catchy hooks and melodies all
over the place. Peters and his co-horts are pop psychonauts who view the
world through Alice In Wonderland shaped sunglasses and that is a very, very
enjoyable thing on "The Creaking Stair". Very Highly Recommended!

| a new sound | |
| Reviewer: hayley folino | | While I can hear how this CD has some influences by XTC, the Beatles and more, their is no doubt that it is a whole new sound. I love that these are totally origional hooks, and melodies. Unlike so much of what we hear now a days, the songs aren't predictable, you are always listing to hear what is next. The lyrics are meaningful, and full of substence. If you are a music fan, who is always looking for a few new songs to sing on the car ride to work, pick up a copy of this album!!! |

| MJ Peters Is Not Lame - He Has Star Quality! | |
| Reviewer: Bob Martin | | I can count on one hand the number of times in my life that I`ve heard music that is totally new AND great. THIS is one. At once fresh and new, and yet, you can chart a direct course from the later half of the 1960s. The writing is thought provoking and acid-laced with humor and vivid, twisted imagery - both lyrically and musically. The arrangements are intensely wide and hot - how does one mind conceive all this, let along execute it?
This has been on heavy rotation for since I got it.
My words don`t do this record justice. Yikes! |
