I would really appreciate it if you would follow me for a bit here with what is truly a gorgeous gem by Michael Miller. "I Made Made You Up" is not a typical record that I push here on some level, but on others it really is. Few artists today are making albums as detailed and well-crafted as this one. It abounds with intricate arrangements and strings, sinewy guitar lines, soft, driving rhythms, harmonies, mellotrons - all dripping with such heartfelt beauty. It`s like "Revolver"-era Beatles mixed with Jon Brion, Pink Floyd and Muse. If you give me a chance to explore this, just start with Song #1 below and see if that triggers you to explore deeper. Fans of modern stylizations of rock inside the meadows of highly-textured, tender songcraft will love this - it`s drenched in it.
"9 out of 10. Awash in a melodic swath of near-psychedelic ether, Michael Miller`s I Made You Up teeters between that delicate dream state of newborn refuge and Milky Way haze. From the bitterly saucy, gauzy ire of "Tipsy" to the tempered, joyride-glee of "Carolina Skyline," Miller`s unassuming yet gumptious approach places him squarely alongside the likes of troubadours Pete Droge and Steve Forbert but with flecks of Supertramp/Bowie-style transcendental grandeur... Miller pays tribute to the album-as-art with a supremely crafted chunk of sonic history that`s easily at the top of my 2009 best-ofs." - Blurt Online. Not for everyone, but for those who hear me here, Extremely Highly Recommended!
