Jangling 12 string Byrdsy 60`s inspired melodic, poetic, rockin` songs of substance with lush harmonies; also featuring guest guitarist Jerry Miller of Moby Grape on 5 of the tracks. The band carry on the 1960`s folk-rock sounds of The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Jefferson Airplane, Flying Burrito Brothers and more. The band sparkles electric, with a ringing 12-string Rickenbacker, beautiful melodies and lush harmonies. The songs are thought provoking poetic pieces of a Dylanesque style. Waiting for the Mystery Train grabs the listener takes them through America with The Chymes social and political songs; songs of loneliness, betrayal; of sad changes, and times gone. And songs of hope and faith. Old School, New School - never goes out of style. "The four piece ensemble is clearly influenced by 1960s-era folk rock musicians.
American greats such as Bob Dylan, The Byrds, and Neil Young(to name a few) come through loud and clear in all their tracks, but the Chymes have managed to craft a sound that is all their own. Lead vocalists Cindy and Robert Dale create a harmonic balance between verses on many songs, and the entire band lends a hand to their rich signature harmonies. Local blues guitarist Jerry Miller also puts his mark on " MYstery Train".
Guitarist Robert Dale has a vocal style reminiscent of singers Dylan and Tom Petty which compliment Cindy`s strong feminine style that seems to be signature of folk rock singers of the past. The band`s debut full-length starts out with the catchy " South Tacoma Way" which encapsulates the gritty, industrial feel of the Way along with with a rhythm of a train chugging through town.In one of the obvious homages to Dylan, "Greyhound Bound" is one of the standout tracks on the album. A knee-slapping gospel song, "Lord Lead Me On," is a righteous curveball for the unprepared, but exemplifies the band`s faith and diversity. " Gone With the Wind" is another instance where the Chymes seem to find their niche. The classic, folk-rock musical score mixed with the politically minded lyrics seem to be what the Chymes are all about, and they do it best here."-Tacoma Weekly.
