The band is the project of songwriter and former
Rosavelt singer-guitarist Kevin Grasha and a collection of musicians now scattered across the U.S. "It's what Wilco might sound like covering Guided By Voices... Grasha paints his pop gems with rock’s primary colors — big open chords through small dirty amps — leaving ample room for the slight twang and edge of his voice... For a while it’s enough to drown out the clutter." - Big Takeover. “Music for the ears of anyone who's into The Replacements, early Wilco and Guided by Voices. "Levitate" comes roaring out of the gate, nailing their sound with guitars and hooks all wrapped up in 2:24. "Less Than Safe at Last" is reminiscent of the better moments of Paul Westerberg's solo career; "I Woke Up" would have fit in nicely on Wilco's AM and "The Stuntman" is where the Robert Pollard comparisons come in. While The Amprays may be not reinventing the wheel here, they're certainly doing their best to keep it spinning in a manner that you can rock to.”-AbsolutePowerPopBlog. “The Amprays use pretty broad strokes on what is essentially guitar-driven power pop. While it all makes for a vivid, exciting listen, wave after wave of guitar riffs can become tiring, so it comes as a relief to be hit with the more considered title track and Ghost In The Water. The power-pop spell may be broken but it’s only temporary and normal service is soon resumed. However, it has to be admitted that there is the odd moment when The Amprays aim is less than true, Someone Has My Drug has visions of grandeur but becomes overblown and a mite tedious. But the blemishes are few and far between and Grasha offes ample evidence of his songwriting talent. Low Sun Fire may follow a fairly safe and well-worn path but on the whole Grasha and co prove themselves sure-footed.”-Americana UK.
