Big Kid - All Kidding Aside

2006 release, 8 song Mini-CD and like it`s predecessor "You Must Be Kidding" it`s a pop-corker, one of the more under-radar, super-talented pop bands that more folks need to hear about. All Kidding Aside is another collection of can`t-miss hooks and feel-good riffs that put the pop squarely back into power pop. Fans of The Argument, Jon Brion(not all songs, but definitely on some), Jellyfish(when it`s there, it is classic as on "When I Met The Girl", for example) and some of more modern pop labels like American Hi-Fi, Phantom Planet/Maroon 5 and Tsar. Others agree! "With touches of The Tories, Jellyfish and Bleu, Big Kid takes the formula forged on their debut, You Must Be Kidding, and adds a bit of a modern element into play. When I say modern, I don`t mean noisy...more like radio friendly American Hi-Fi or MilesAbove. With pop like this it`s all about the hook, and the hooks here are big enough to reel in Jaws. The tunes here are extremely focused and well written and seem to have a lot of life in them, as I`ve listened to this disc at least a dozen times and it`s still growing on me. Though When I Met The Girl is the highlight, it`s by barely a notch as Amerie and In A Word are tight too. While a bit on the short side, what the disc lacks in quantity it more than make up for in quality."-Kurt`s Krap. Extremely Highly Recommended!!

All Kidding Aside: Big Kid goes Front and Center

I've been cranking this for a couple weeks -- I'm a big fan! All Kidding Aside is even better than the first Big Kid record. My fave tracks are "What Can I Do" and "In A Word" - give it a chance!

No Kidding!

Now this is pure Power Pop through and through! Big Kid will most certainly appeal to lovers of The Posies, Jason Falkner and Jellyfish. It's filled with hummable melodies and outstanding vocals. Each time we listen, we hear something new, evidence of the care taken in creating this fine new release. Big Kid is big fun!

The power pop CD I have been waiting for.

But WHY is it only 9 songs, 2 of which are shorter instrumentals!? Despite that, this is easily my favorite album of the past year. It stays true to classic power pop a la Jellyfish, Jason Falkner, with more of a modern edge to it. It strikes that balance between deep music with big amounts of roll-down-your-windows rock and energy. This CD sounds great, too - I discover something new every time I listen to it. It caters to my power pop addiction, yet has sophisticated and inspiring arrangements and vocals. These guys know what they're doing. I can't stop playing "What Can I Do" and "Started". My roommate is getting annoyed, but he likes death metal, so there you go. I can't wait to hear more, and would love to see them live.
