There`s so much cool stuff going with Park Police`s "Ranchero" it`s hard to pin down. Sounding like a combination Sloan, Velvet Crush and Spoon, believe it or not, Park Police have fashioned a sound that is recognizably classic by pop standards while having an appealing sound that hip twenty-somethings could easily latch onto. With Not Lame doing this for 11 years and listening to many thousands and thousands of indie pop releases, trust us, this is not an easy thing to pull off and profess in writing. There`s a few songs here that, if you dropped the proverbial digital `needle` on, you`d guess that you listening to Velvet Crush(check out "Next Gear" below, for an example of this). These guys are from Baltimore, MD and you know, there`s sounds of other cool bands from that area (Myracle Brah, Montgomery Cliffs, Bastards Of Melody, in particular) but the corner the listener finds themselves in is pure contentment with the experience of enjoying some really, really fresh power pop with an soft-ish indie rock kick in the ass. "Local trio Park Police named its debut CD, Ranchero, after the 1960s half-car, half-pickup vehicle. And the 10 songs on it do an excellent job of making you feel as if youre sitting in the back of one on the way to the shore for beers. The music is sunny and upbeat without being cloying or unintelligent, pretty much like the friendly, easygoing guys who make it.. Its rock its hook-laden but doesnt pander merely to brainless pop, catchy without being vacant. Surging changes start and stop midsong without detracting from tunes momentum. And while the songwriting is crafty and witty, above all Park Police is loose and fun. Its obvious that the band enjoys itself as the tracks tick by."-City Paper. Bottom Line? Big Time Extremely Highly Recommended!
