Peter Bjorn And John - Falling Out

Swedish pop duo that have created a classic sounding pop record, vidid musical mediations in the vein of Soundtrack Of Our Lives, A.C. Newman, The Shin, New Pornographers, Joel Plaskett and Doug Gillard. Falling Out is a assemblage of ingenious pop songs, cleverly recorded and masterfully arranged, sounds drawn from the simple (the Speak & Spell talking toy that opens the album) to the symphonic (tidy string arrangements). Think early Squeeze and The Jam and several decades worth of British Invasion and the euphoric rush of all the aforementioned bands! 10 songs (perfect!) about falling in and Falling Out of love with people, places, and ideas. Energy, sweat, sincerity, and a genuine sense of excitement to explore new pop areas seem to surround their music. . This vibrant array of alluring guitar power pop is a confection to ask for seconds on and it`s lucidly inventive. Songwriters Peter Morn and Bjrn Yttling (producer/arranger for Concretes, Shout Out Louds, Nicolai Dunger, among others) have been writing songs since their teens but it wasnt until hooking up with drummer John Eriksson in 1999 that the collaboration bore fruit. And what tasty, vitamin-infused fruit this is! Extremely Highly Recommended, big time!

No great shakes

Of the ten songs here, maybe 2 or 3 are keepers. And those few sound like fuzzed out Squeeze. At least, the vox sound like Glenn Tilbrook. But apart from that, the album is fairly underwhelming and certainly not worth the hype (since virtually everything to emerge from Sweden these days is hyped). Perhaps more hooks next time around and less alt. rock gesturing would be to their advantage. Until then, skip this one.

the first reviewer is right, this is genius work, the second review - dont listen to him.
