Well, there has been a spate of great reissues from the Atlantics came in the last few years. The Atlantics were on the very best power pop bands on the Boston scene in the late 70s and released a true classic in the genre on the ABC label in 1979, which has never been released on CD, tragically. This compilation is what I, as a fan from the beginning, have been waiting for. I read about all these demos of songs they were working on in the local press back then and I`ve been searching for years to find them. "The Search" is over! "Power Pop : Singles 1977-1982" has 17 songs, including 4 amazing ones that eventually appeared on their debut along, "Pop Shivers", their extremely popular 1982 singles, and their first 1977 single is included along with high quality, studio recorded demos. With the 1977 single, a thousand copies were pressed but never released, and the single is now considered a collectors item. "PowerPop"presents a collection of 17 previously unreleased or limited-release tracks recorded between 1978 and 1982. They include both sides of the classic Jukebox Records single "When You`re Young " b/w "Where Would I Be Without Your Love. "Other highlights include tracks recorded at Downtown Studios with producer/engineer Phil Adler; versions of tunes found on the "Big City Rock " LP; and some of the band`s early demos. The tracks were meticulously re-mastered by Jonathan Wyner at M Works, but have been left in their natural state with no overdubs or enhancements. As a result, the audio quality may vary from track to track, but the performances are truly outstanding. "PowerPop: Singles 1977-1982" is the third Atlantics reissue, following the self-titled "Atlantics " and "Atlantics Live ". With Bobby Marron`s unforgettable vocals and classic songs by Bruce Wilkinson, Jeff Lock, and Tom Hauck, the Atlantics CD collection stands as an indispensable part of the punk/pop explosion that swept the music industry in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and whose descendants can be heard on alternative rock radio today. I am beside myself with utter glee to see and hear these songs I have dreamed about for over 30 years. They are here for fans of the power pop genre to enjoy forever more.
