Steven Wright-Mark`s debut showed up suddenly, providentially two years ago through a a dear friend of Not Lame and excellent tastemaker, Andy Udis. It was a sleeper and lots of you connected with it - for good reason. Now, comes the second album - which takes everything that was right and good on "Pop Motel" and refines, refreshes and reinvigorates - it is all a step up. The confidence, the quality of the songs, the longer linger of the melodies and hooks. Like "Pop Motel", the sounds here blend classic reverb-heavy early Tommy Keene, alongside the pure pop mechanics of Matthew Sweet and a vocal sound that combines Keene and Richard Butler from the Psychedelic Furs. When the hooks are big, they are huge. The songs here are full of heavy guitar lines, catchy chord changes, flowing harmonies and...those big hooks we just mentioned. Fans of Darren Robbin`s projects(Time Bomb Symphony and Destroy The Heart) will enjoy Wright-Marks sugary-easy to enjoy his fuzzy, buzz-saw guitar sound. Wright-Mark plays it all himself here and it is the DIY spirit that makes the energy all the more palpable and the project such a pleasure - beginning to end. VERY Highly Recommended!
