Supraluxe was a big out of left-field discovery a few years back upon its release. What surprised me then - and so many of you out there - was its out of the gate maturity. It was a fully developed, self-assured release, especially considering it was debut(it`s on the Not Lame site still and, yes, extremely highly recommended). "Wake Leave Home Sleep", their follow up to that striking debut, accomplishes the same. Sounding like a band that has been together many years and recorded many albums, it forces itself upon you recognize this an album, a band that demands your attention. It`s all together different but very much building on the foundations of everything that made their debut so special. Listen below - grab a small, little portion of the vision. Supraluxe is growing in leaps and bounds while continuing to use the classic rock guitars and unforgettable hooks that saturated of that mighty fine debut. . By wrapping themes of loss, anxiety, alienation and love in the gloss of shiny summerpop, they have created an exuberantly melancholy work that bounces with layered melodies and interlocking cohesiveness. Lead-off track, "Wake Leave Home Sleep", is a hefty, slow-burner - it starts off in a haze, like a weak-state. Finds it groove, it`s flow-state and burns rubber. Each successive song that follows has a similar template, on some level. They are all deceptively gripping, catchy and worthy of full attention. "Wake Leave Home Sleep is a mighty triumph of music and lyrics casting great emotions to the listener, This CD is a must own for any music lover! this is Supraluxe and the CD Wake Leave Home Sleep has something terribly wrong with it, The power of pop and the grind of rock with a touch of meat from life and experience is all in it, but what I do not hear is the copying of music from the first CD, many bands can`t seem to walk away from a great first CD and copy songs and rewrite them to try to have more big hits, Supraluxe did not do that on this CD, Bob Burns keyboards where as stellar as they could be, chiming out sounds of extacy like sparrows flying to heights of mating with songs of love as a harp plays the song of dome and passion. Rich Pearsons bass was like something of fret hell, There was no basic boom boom boom being played, chords of sound, growls of the lion and sounds of thunder erupt in emotional resistance from the cries within." - BaldGuyShow.net ""Like the sugar pop coating on top of frank bleakness on an Eels record, Supraluxe packages feelings of emptiness, anxiety and isolation with lush, danceable indie pop songs, complete with handclaps galore. It`s stuff that makes you smile and tap your toes while you scratch your head. Deftly straddling the line between slick pop and garage rock, Supraluxe sounds like a slightly more hopeful Elliot Smith fronting a band somewhere between the Love Cars and Semisonic. They deliver a kind of musical Prozac where cool chemicals mix with warm melodies to make your serotonin percolate! Unfailingly easy on the ears, they`ve come up with another gem of an indie pop record!" - CMJ. Not sure who The Love Cars are, but right on. Yes, Extremely Highly Recommended!
