Japanese only import. Subtitled: Inspired Humans Making Noise. Screen Test
was the band that grew out of the break up The Flashcubes, one of the late
70`s great unheralded power pop bands from upstate New York and who history
has been very kind to with the reissue of their catalog of releases making
it clear what a crime it was these guys never were signed. Screen Test,
featuring Gary Frenay, Tommy Allen and Arty Lenin(3/4 of the `Cubes!),
picked up where The Flashcubes left off and fans of bands like The
Romantics, Pezband, The Knack, The Deal, The Spongetones, The Scruffs and
Titan Records(and obscure, but important label from the late 70`s) will find
familiar and reason for much celebratory hooting `n hollering. There are 20
tracks covering 1980-1986 and it`s all here. Screen Test only released an
EP and a single, but was always recording searching from that elusive record
deal that never materialized. In many ways, the material on this album is
stronger, more listenable and consistent than The Flashcubes` "Bright
Lights" anthology. Basically, like The Flashcubes, Screen Test
combined their love for the timeless British Invasion rock`n` roll of the
Beatles, the Kinks, the Hollies and the Who with the high-energy sounds of
the punk rockers just starting to make a big noise around that same time.
Throw in a healthy reverence for classic power pop acts like Big Star and
the Raspberries--and a healthy irreverence for everything else. Another
major find for fans of 70`s and 80`s pure and true Power Pop!
