Full Band Name: Serene Dominic & The Semi Detached, which gives a hint as to what`s coming. Serene Dominic has his own, special vision as to what pop music should sound like and, all Not Lame can say, is more power to him as he pulls off not sounding like some wacky iconoclast, but an artist that is truly trying to ruffle things up with convention while being successful with being, well, accessible. If Elvis Costello was not such a intellectual prat (we dig a lot of it, but he tries to damn hard now and Elvis never sounds like he`s having a good time) the last 15 years and still making the kind of pop he made the first 10 years, it would sound like "Adult Contemptuous". "The Uncontrollable Woman" is a good example, as is "Solar System". Listen
below, see what you think, more importantly. With his previous
efforts, Magnet Magazine called him "an avatar of pure, pristine pop" while New York Press dubbed him "the Pitbull of Pop" and "Love`s Ultimate Schlub." But just when you try and get him pegged into some easy descriptive corner, online research reveals that Serene Dominc has written a book Burt Bacharach called "Song By Song"(there`s not hint of his influence here that we can detect, okay, well, maybe in a few spots) Bottom line, the best sales pitch we can offer is, that if you were a Costello fan from 1977-1986, you are going to find a lot here to turn your twistle and push a smile up on your face.
