Produced by Michael Carpenter, the stamp of high quality is a given as MC
works with only the very best in pop talent in Australia and heralding of a
new talent from 'down under' is a very real event. Carpenter even performs
the duties of adding more of his talents bass, drums, keys and background
vocals, but the drive here is Morel's songs. "Record #2¹ is a guitar led
Brit-rock inspired record- think everything from Teenage Fanclub to Squeeze
- where Morel has channelled 60s PowerPop and combined it with story based
songwriting. These jangle-filled, warm, uplifting and vivid meditations are
going to rock the pop souls here in Not Lame Land with pure pop punch, no
doubt! "Carpenter's production is apparent right off the bat with
the power pop gem of an opener, "Tomorrow's Maybe", and the rock of "As Time
Goes By" (not a remake of the Casablanca standard). Other uptempo standouts
include "Don't Give Your Love Away" and "Sadness In a Small Town", possibly
the catchiest track on the disc and featuring great harmonies on the chorus.
Fans of Morel's softer side won't be disappointed either; "No Coming
'Round", "Saving Grace" (co-written with Carpenter), and the closing "Place
For Us" are all high-quality ballads."-AbsolutePowerPopBlog. An emering,
important new arrival on the power pop scene and the pay-off is big here on
"Record #2". Extremely Highly Recommended!
