I fell in love with this band upon hearing some demos before their first album. They had me from moment #1 from song #1. On their 3rd album, "Not Only But Also", I am still very much in their camp and I may have to say, it is a band that can do no wrong by me. The 88 increase the hook factor, the line quotient and the sinker effect here. With this 3rd release, The 88 refute the myth that art and the three-and-a-half-minute power pop song cant get along. They blend updated interpretations of The Kinks, Jellyfish, Eric Carmen/Raspberries, Cheap Trick and on the modern side bands like Maroon 5 and The Fray. "The 88 will please a lot of people whilst pushing the band onward and upward. The band write to their strengths whilst appealing to a cross section of listeners. With this album, The 88 are tapping, with arrow precision, right into melodic airplay territory. Below the surface lurks a band who can step it up but they will never lose their ability to write a good hook laden melody. Not Only But Also has plenty of them."-BlogCritics.org. "3 ½ stars. Power pop is a genre that never seems to go out of style. Ever since the Beatles invented it back in the 1960s, each subsequent decade has spawned countless bands that specialize in tunes that walk the line between sticky sweet pop and good old-fashioned rock & roll. As evidenced by their 2008 release, Not Only...But Also, a leading candidate for the "early 21st century power pop award" is the Los Angeles, CA based trio, the 88. Pop music of the early 21st century is largely comprised of youngsters who seem satisfied with their mere 15 minutes of fame, but with Not Only...But Also, the 88 have put together a consistent pop album from front to back." - AMG. Students of rock history, The 88 combine post-punk high energy with a love of classic British Invasion bands such as The Kinks and The Small Faces `70s Bowiesque glam and Nuggets-style garage-bands! EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
